The Danish Graduate School for "Integration, Production and Welfare" invite to a PhD course "Topics in Applied Microeconometrics", February 24-26, 2010 at Aarhus School of Business, Aarhus University, Denmark.

The course is lectured by Professor Rafael Lalive, University of Lausanne.

The aim of this course is to give an overview of recent methods and important applications of causal analysis in the social sciences.

The course starts by discussing the key insights and uses of regression discontinuity design. We discuss the key idea of how discontinuous assignment helps identification and recent applications as well as experimental tests of the research method. The second key topic concerns the identification of social interaction or peer effects, a topic which has received considerable attention in the recent economics literature. We discuss key identification challenges as well as designs suited to resolve them. The course closes discussing the task of how to measure causal effects in a dynamic and long-run perspective.

The course will be given as morning lectures with STATA exercises and paper presentations in the afternoon.
